MEET THE BREEDERS & SUPPLIERS

Ashvell Murray Greys – Amy Nankivell - Breeder & Feeder
Ashvell Murray Greys is located 15km North of Maitland on the Yorke Peninsula. The farm has been running Murray Grey cattle commercially for 35+ years and branched into stud breeding in 2016. Over the years cattle have been selected specifically with grain feeding in mind. Our cattle are fed on property with the grain grown and harvested from the farm. We absolutely love the temperament and meat quality of our Murray Greys. Low stress stock handling is incorporated into every part of our business from start to finish. All our animals have different purposes on farm, but each and every one receives that extra bit of attention that they deserve.

Ballyvaughan Murray Greys - Steve and Katrina Saunders - Breeder
Set in the beautiful Clare Valley, we have been breeding Murray Grey’s since 2001. We chose Murray Grey’s because of their quiet temperament and their ability to produce great beef in our Australian environment. Over the years our herd numbers have increased, and we currently run 80 breeders on hills pasture and our stubble paddocks over summer when our crops have been harvested. We are focussing on adopting regenerative practices on our land and cattle are part of the holistic story. Through improving the health of our soil and the health of our cattle we know this will have a positive result on the quality of the beef we produce.

Beeamma Murray Greys – Anthony and Denise Fabris - Breeder
The Beeamma stud was founded in 2002 by Dick and Jill Buick. At the time Dick and Jill were living on Beeamma Parsons Road, which gave the inspiration for the “Beeamma” name. The stud is located in Western Flat, 30kms south of Bordertown.  We have been running Beeamma for 17 years and now hold an annual on property sale in conjunction with my brother’s stud ARKI Murray Greys called the ‘Green Triangle Murray Grey Sale’. My family grew up with Murray Greys which led to my strong love for the breed. Some of the traits we love most about our Murray greys are their easy doing ability, easy calving, docility for handling ease, maternal nature, and carcase quality. The best part they are Australia’s own breed.

Grovene Murray Greys – Mic and Kirsty Grady - Breeder
Grovene Murray Greys was founded in 1990 after the dispersal of my Grandparents Stud Jersey Herd. Murray Greys have been the perfect fit for our breeding program. The herd was started with a cow and calf unit purchased from Dick and Jill Buick of ARKI Murray Greys. Initially the stud was situated in the Adelaide Hills, which has since moved to Padthaway in the states Southeast. The location may have changed over time, but the focus of our breeding remains the same, strong cattle that perform in the paddock or the feedlot.

Mallbrae Murray GreysJackie and Leigh - Breeder & Feeder
Mallbrae Murray Greys is located at Wild Horse Plains and have been breeding, growing, feeding and selling Murray Grey Beef since the 1990’s. In 2019 a decision was made to incorporate stud breeding into the 160 head commercial Murray Grey herd. We find the Murray Grey cattle adapt very well to our climate, they have great heat tolerance, a beautiful nature, and produce high quality beef. We have had animals in the top 100 for the Meat Standards Australia eating quality awards and received the champion lightweight carcass at the 2022 Royal Adelaide Show. The Mallbrae feedlot can feed 400 Murray Greys at any time. This consists of home bred and purchased in Murray Greys from fellow South Australian breeders. The cattle are grown up on pastures either at Wild Horse Plains or in the Adelaide hills before they enter the feedlot. They are fed hay and grain that has been produced on farm and so we are the full paddock to plate circle.

Moonta Gourmet Meats - Rhys O'Donohue - Processor
Rhys has built his business up from scratch, after purchasing it just over three years ago, currently putting through between two and four bodies of Murray Grey beef each week. I started buying beef locally from the Ashvell Murray Grey stud at Maitland, and now the only body beef I buy is Murray Grey. Ashvell were the only grain fed beef close by, and once I started buying Murray Greys to put through the shop, the quality could not be faulted. According to Rhys the taste of Murray Grey beef is second to none.
